Clogged gutters are one of the most common causes of avoidable exterior damage. Regular maintenance keeps water moving away from your roof, siding, and foundation.
When gutters are blocked with leaves and debris, rainwater cannot drain properly. This causes water to spill over the sides and pool near the base of your home.
What happens when gutters are ignored?
- Water overflows near the foundation
- Siding becomes stained or damaged
- Roof edges begin to rot
- Pests gather in wet debris
Signs your gutters need cleaning
- Plants or weeds growing inside gutters
- Water spilling over the sides during rain
- Visible sagging or loose brackets
- Birds or insects nesting in debris
At minimum, inspect your gutters in spring and fall. Homes with surrounding trees may require more frequent service.
Installing gutter guards can help reduce debris buildup, but they still require occasional inspection to ensure proper drainage.
